The Curious Case Of Rose Tico

Recently the Critical Drinker posted this video

It was about Finn, but since in the second sequel flick Rose TIco and Finn were mostly tied together, it is almost as much about her.

As most everybody knows, Rose Tico was not a popular character. Evidence of this was found in the third movie, where she barely had a part. Further evidence is found in the fact that the character sold almost no action figures. However, right after the movie came out, there was lots of unhappiness with her character found all over the web. Naturally enough, this was considered to be misogynistic, racist, whatever. The natural knee-jerk reaction as usual.

The Critical Drinker is especially good at pointing out specific issues with characters; much more so than regular people are. A garden variety viewer might feel that things are off with a given character, but can only place vague notion on issue. The Drinker fixes that rather well.

In Rose Tico’s case, it comes down to the fact that she is a righteous know-it all who does little but get in the way of people trying to solve the problem. Furthermore, there is no upside to her, as she never contributes any good ideas. Then in the end, she effectively continually humiliates Finn (I suppose that is what modern Star Wars women are supposed to do)

Fellas who live in the real world have dealt with women like this. Fellas are also expected to get things done. It is not a good mix. Probably, for many guys, subconscious recollections of the frustrations from the past were projected on her.

What is your opinion on the character?

I have a little sympathy for the actors and actresses involved in episodes 7, 8 & 9. There’s not much you can do when the writing of both the storyline and the characters are both juvenile and crap.

    Projection— it happens

The title itself reveals the stubborn simplicity of the Democratic Party’s coup narrative. Their elites have worked themselves and their base into a frothing lather of existential fright. In article after article, liberal intellectuals and activists have been talking for months about how Trump could steal the election or refuse to leave the White House even if he loses. But if the Right dares to point out that Democrats are actually changing the rules of the electoral process and actually speaking publicly about refusing to concede even if they lose, well, this only proves that the Right is going to steal the election and refuse to concede if they lose!

The character was useless filler. The Star Wars “affirmative action” character: created and inserted into the story line because we need to have a pudgy, unattractive character there to show our wokeness. There was no point to Rose even being in the story. She does nothing, she serves no purpose, she helps no one (not even Finn), she is competent at nothing. Rose is there solely and only to show

“see how woke we are!? We put a pudgy, unattractive, incompetent woman into our movie to show you that everyone needs to be included, even in a galaxy far far away!”

Not only that, Rose is a pain in the ass. She is loud, uncouth, passive aggressive, and unpleasant. She’s unhelpful, demanding, and yeah, kind of bitchy. (Look at the photo FB used. Rose has a pinched up face with furrowed brow, looking pissed off, agitated, and annoyed.

Patriots, we have always held the line in dark seasons, and we will overcome the challenges we face today. We will do so with the vigilance, strength, preparedness, resolve, and faith that has sustained generations of American Patriots.

When Samuel Adams signed our Declaration of Independence, he said, “We have this day restored the Sovereign to whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let His kingdom come.” Amen.

John Adams declared, “I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the gloom I can see the rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the end is more than worth all the means.”

Powell claims to have hard evidence has been and will continue to be submitted in lawsuits filed in several battleground states. Besides the usual voting by the deceased, several other issues appear significant. Powell states that they have over 450,000 ballots from key states with only Biden selected and no down-ballot votes. That would not only be extraordinarily odd but also mathematically impossible. Additionally, there are other Republican candidates whom she claims have had a win stolen from them, including Doug Collins of Georgia and John James from Michigan.

Additional evidence, says Powell, shows that Democratic operatives were changing ballots from Trump to Biden. Powell states that 3% of the vote has been compromised in this way. That’s over 8 million votes!

Obviously we can’t say a prayer for the family, or talk about his eternal destination, because we might offend somebody, so we’re all just going to have a moment where we are all collectively silenced regarding him. But, it is clearly important that during this moment of silence, we prevent anybody from getting within 6 feet of us, lest we also die for angering the gods of covidiocy. Meanwhile, going out on a tangent: 1.1397363643598

Re the gull and the falcon. True to cartoon form, behind the headland the gull suddenly dived and reversed course. The falcon, focusing as it was on its catch, did not see the cliff and rammed full-force into it. Whimpering as it fell to the bottom of the cliff and died.

Some symbolism about the current election in there somewhere.

BUDAPEST (Reuters) – Hungary’s government proposed a constitutional amendment on Tuesday requiring children to be raised with a Christian interpretation of gender roles, as Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s ruling nationalists turn to anti-LGBT rhetoric to shore up support.

The draft amendment submitted to parliament by Justice Minister Judit Varga declares that children must be guaranteed an “upbringing based on values stemming from Hungary’s … Christian culture.”

“The basis for family relations is marriage,” it says. “The mother is a woman, the father is a man.”

It also says Hungary “protects children’s right to the gender identity they were born with,” using language consistent with a government campaign to outlaw transgender identities.

Star Wars ended with “The Return of the Jedi”. I was in 7th grade (about 13) and I made a poor choice of seeing that first “pre-quel” in 1999……the one with a young Anikan Skywalker.

Have not seen any of the movies since. I have no plans to.

I had no idea that this post was about Star Wars until the exit question.

Star Wars is Luke Skywalker, Princess Leah, Jawas, landspeeders, Darth Vader, light sabers, Han Solo and Chewbacca.

And, it’s also launching a full-scale Jihad against those law firms and lawyers participating in legal challenges against the election results.

Nothing is so unsettling to a social order as the presence of a mass of scribes without suitable employment and an acknowledged status…The explosive component in the contemporary scene is not the clamor of the masses but the self-righteous claims of a multitude of graduates from schools and universities. This army of scribes is clamoring for a society in which planning, regulation, and supervision are paramount and the prerogative of the educated. They hanker for the scribe’s golden age, for a return to something like the scribe-dominated societies of ancient Egypt, China, and the Europe of the Middle Ages. There is little doubt that the present trend in the new and renovated countries toward social regimentation stems partly from the need to create adequate employment for a large number of scribes…Obviously, a high ratio between the supervisory and the productive force spells economic inefficiency.

What “unity” really means, of course, is capitulation. America is once again being subjected to the inane brand of pseudo-patriotic sloganeering we saw during President Barack Obama’s tenure. Now, as then, the media will pretend that the moral fabric of the nation must be mended after Republican rule. It’s pretty transparent. When Democrats win the presidency, we are treated to solemn calls for national restoration and political harmony, and to the expectation that, for the good of the nation, the opposition will embrace decorum and pass legislation they oppose. When Republicans win elections, grown women put on knitted hats depicting their reproductive organs and stomp around Washington protesting, all to a hero’s welcome
