Many people believe that Jungian Myers-Briggs personality type model is effective. Perhaps, not perfect, but effective. And effective is what young men need, as the system is stacked against them.
One of the dimensions deals with the approach toward doing stuff. The Judging type ( J ) is oriented toward getting things done, they want resolution. The Perceiving type ( P ) is has a predisposition toward doing, but not necessarily driving toward resolution. The J’s are the get ‘er done type, and the P is often the have fun type.
The J often accomplishes the task that needs to be done, while the P often becomes more skilled as he practices things more (with often a problem being that he doesn’t always get what needs to be done done).
People often become of one type or the other. However, that does not mean that the other type cannot be developed. In fact, that is what is being advocated here, for a combination of the two can be very powerful. In short, get useful things done, develop your skills, and maybe enjoy doing it at least a bit.
