From here,
In Germany, free education leads to irrelevant courses, hopelessly overcrowded public universities, and a drop-out rate of about 30%
Well yes, if one is young and doesn’t have to pay for something; and furthermore can dictate what the product should be, then shit will happen.
One might say that the customer is always right. The customer in this case would be assumed to be the students. Since they are not paying, are they really the customer? Furthermore, academia is the one place where the (apparent) customer is not always correct. Academic standards should be maintained for the sake of the hidden customer, that is, the potential employers of these students. Somehow their desires area often not really considered, probably they are not there on campus complaining enough like the students do.
Germany is the reluctance of school-leavers to take advantage of the admirable dual-education system, and instead enroll at a university (“Opening up a crack”, May 18th). The problem is that every pupil who has passed the school-leaving exam, the Abitur, has the constitutional right to a place at university, even if he or she has to wait some semesters and has no real academic inclinations or talents. The result is a proliferation of abstruse and socially irrelevant courses, a drop-out rate of about 30% (a shocking waste of human and financial resources) and the lack of skilled workers you mentioned.
Germany has historically had a high-stakes test based system that determined what types of schools you could attend. Roughly, there was the academic track and the vocational track. This often meant that some students who might be late bloomers would be eliminated from the academic track. Presumably this is behind the policy change to allow lots more onto the academic track.
Or perhaps there is something more. I am not an expert on German politics, but I wonder if pressure by women who anted the more prestigious (and fun) academic path was a factor. The proliferation of abstruse and socially irrelevant courses as mentioned above is another clue.
Men know that they will have to be in the work force and produce. They are more inclined to academics that will aid in that. We saw in this previous post that women who wanted to have independent means, to work to make their money, had this attitude; and as such, flocked to computer science and IT degrees. Women, who know that they may work or may not, tend to go for more fun courses and degrees (and please make them easier).
Can anybody out there know more about the German situation. Perhaps they can add to this assessment. However, I am thinking that there is at least some truth to my speculation.
The real customers are the taxpayers who fund the universities. They are paying for productive citizens but getting sjws idiots instead.

Whelp .. what good is a public education in any country?
Now it takes an extra 4 years to teach what we used to get in high school.
And of course the rich will always have private schools. What good is a public education again?
I paid nothing for my college thanks to scholarships. I still worked the night shift at a grocery store stockin shelves. And turning wrenches on airplanes on the weekend. I flew corporate jets in college too.
To many times these youngin’s think they don’t have to work after they get a college degree.
I guess I’m biased. I joined the US Navy and took on submarines and nuclear power training. Which had a 90% failure rate.
An education is just the start!

Hmmm, well speaking of youngin’s, Mom raccoon brought her three juvenile delinquents into our neighborhood. They have eaten the dog food on each side of me and ate my early apples and now the dirty buggers ate forty or fifty of my late season figs. I got a grand total of two(2) figs, they are just lucky that I have a sense of humour ;-D

To tell the truth I don’t know because I’ve only seen her down the street before…and she has only ever had one or two babe. The one messy neighbor(scattered garbage) has moved so maybe they need a new source of grub, and we had a cool spring which definitely affects bee and fruit production. But with that many figs in a night or two I would imagine that they were more than regular ;-D.

Last year, when women started getting irked at being pushed aside by men claiming to be women, women’s groups — true women’s groups — began announcing the obvious: Women don’t have penises. The media rushed to assure Americans that this was ridiculous. One example is this, from Newsweek: “Well, since gender identity is not determined by what kind of genitals someone has, a person with a female gender identity might well have a penis. In other words, yes, some women do have penises.”

Here’s something I find curious:
Dennis Prager is suing Youtube for basically blacklisting his videos, but yesterday he was reading ad copy for 23 and Me on his radio program.
Anne E. Wojcicki is the CEO of 23 and Me and the wife of Sergey Brin co-founder of Google (which owns Youtube), and she is the sister of Susan Diane Wojcicki who is the CEO of Youtube.
So Prager was reading ad copy for the people he is suing. But, not just reading it, he was really enthusiastic about the product saying he used it as well.
Any who, just something I thought was interesting.

One more thing (for now). On the radio this morning they were talking about a an article in the the NY Post saying that some women were trying to get their Resting Bitch Face (RBF) treated with plastic surgery.
https://nypost.com/2019/09/16/women-are-getting-plastic-surgery-to-fix-resting-bitch-face/
Hope Davis didn’t realize the hard truth until her pals uploaded a batch of unflattering photos to Facebook and Instagram — she had resting bitch face.
“I was like, ‘Oh great, I look mad in the middle of the party,’ ” says the 42-year-old Red Bank, NJ, resident and ex-New Yorker of 17 years. “I looked like a sourpuss.”
Davis, whose job as a medical equipment sales associate depends on her appearing approachable, turned to a plastic surgeon.
“This is actually a common request from patients — I get several each week,” says Dr. David Shafer, a double board-certified plastic surgeon and medical director of Shafer Plastic Surgery & Laser Center in Midtown.
“They may not always use the words ‘resting bitch face,’ but if I mention ‘RBF,’ they say, ‘exactly.’”
Is there hope for Hope? You be the judge.

“Clinton has mostly cut a low profile since her shocking 2016 election loss to President Trump.”
Rarely, if ever, has a disgraced election loser sought the spotlight as frequently as Clinton has. We were subjected to multiple “random” photos of her hiking and popping into Whole Foods. Then she published a book. Then she did a promo tour for the book.
Then she never shut up.

This is not the first ride-hailing driver to be falsely accused of rape. In August, Linda Hood was found guilty of perverting the course of justice after she claimed a taxi driver detoured from their route in order to rape her. Tracking data proved no such detour was taken. Hood also claimed the driver who raped her was in his 50s and was clean-shaven, yet the accused driver was 29 and had a full beard. Still, her accusations sent him and another taxi driver with a similar license number to jail for nearly a full day. In this case, DNA also proved the men were not responsible.
Hood maintained her status as a victim for nearly two-and-a-half years before finally accepting her claims were false.
In September 2017, another woman, Sophie Pointon, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after falsely accusing her taxi driver of assaulting her five months earlier. The falsely accused driver proved his innocence with a voice recording, which showed Pointon was “extremely intoxicated and became aggressive after he refused to take her £10 because it was covered in kebab oil,” as reported by The Daily Wire’s Amanda Prestigiacomo.
Believe women? Hell, no.
Pretty sure a rape conviction would get you more than 16 months, and you would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of your life. She needs to register as “known damned liar” for the rest of her life, and it should be stamped across her IDs.

Y: “Prosecutors presented evidence in court that defendant Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani has a brother in Iraq with potential ties to ISIS and lied about visiting him in the country in March. A search of Alani’s phone by prosecutors turned up a “disturbing” ISIS video of someone being shot in the head. Alani allegedly sent the video to someone along with a message that Allah should take revenge against non-Muslims, but it’s unclear if the video was texted, emailed or transmitted by another electronic method.”
At the beginning of the month, the story was framed as Alani being arrested “on a sabotage charge accusing him of disabling a navigation system on a flight with 150 people aboard before it was scheduled to take off from Miami International Airport earlier this summer. The reason, according to a criminal complaint affidavit filed in Miami federal court: Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani, a veteran employee, was upset over stalled union contract negotiations.”

More to the point, “verbal pressure” has been lumped together with physical force. Dr. Laura Hawks, the primary author of the study, broadens rape to include “any sexual encounter that’s unwanted.” The “or” in the phrase “unwanted or nonconsensual” makes it clear that a sexual act could be in every sense consensual — meaning, both partners actively and affirmatively agree to participate in it — and yet rape still may have occurred.
This is madness.

My Dad was an educated man (as he insisted all of his children would be) and when I was a boy I went into his home office, which was a decrepit room in the basement that leaked water, blistered the walls, was disgusting etc. (I can tell you which AM radio station I was listening to when I tried to seal it with special paint, using my paper route money to buy the special paint. OK, it was KIOA.) I asked The Dad what our family name meant. Of course, he had the Oxford English Dictionary on his desk. He took me through the etymology of our name, delivered via the OED. (I have the same name as three English villages or crossroads.)
I have the same reaction to Rees-Mogg. He’s lanky, he’s self-possessed, he’s smarter than everyone in the room. Two of my children have that, plus they’re charming. (I am not charming with people I dislike.) I hope I did a good job, but evidence is in the affirmative.

Kelly Johnson built the P-38 and SR-71 in one year, each. Each aircraft transformed warfare, and those were two radically different wars.
USAF now hoping to build planes on a five-year cycle. Oh, gosh, what an innovation.
Now, obviously, this is better than the 20-year cycle that produced a slow, range-limited, boring-to-fly plane like the F-35. Got it.
But. Kelly Johnson designed and built the SR-71 and P-38 in one year.

https://going-postal.com/2019/09/f-35-whats-the-big-deal/
. . .
My Final Thoughts
I do expect over time the F-35 will turn out to be a good aeroplane, but the way it’s been done… the lobbying and politicking, the way Lockheed have positioned themselves as a de-facto monopoly and the way they are hoovering up taxpayer money leaves me feeling very uneasy indeed. I can’t help but think the tail is wagging the dog with the F-35. So much money has been spent on F-35. So many careers, both political and military have been staked on its success. So much lobbying has been done, so many competitors swept away. It simply cannot fail now. The West has put all its air power eggs in the F-35 basket and I very much hope that won’t turn out to be a mistake. If F-35 does indeed turn out to be a lemon, it will take at least two decades to design and put something else new into service.

I hope what I write here is understandable and coherent, much loud construction going on so it’s hard to think clearly…we’re replacing the inefficient fire place with a furnace grade top notch one. So bring it, Jack Frost (but not today….)
BV, the person who wrote the “Air Superiority 2030” study is a very close friend of ours.
Mike is very intimately familiar with the acquisitions process and could give you and earful, but not online. The P51 only took about 6 months to develop. It was a simpler aircraft, but DARPA is able to develop and field very sophisticated designs quickly. It obviously isn’t impossible, but the bureaucratic nightmare (contracts) is a problem. And the testing process (more contracts) also takes time.
They don’t only have problems on the innovation end, they also have problems on the pilot end. Most folks have heard about the shortage but I don’t think they realize it isn’t just training new pilots. At present, they have cut new pilot slots even with the deep shortage. Because they don’t have the training capacity (seasoned pilots are leaving or have left…some were forced to leave, yes the AF did this to itself). Even the guard and reserves are hurting because they have been tasked with full time deployments and most left active duty because they were tired of the active duty schedule. So they’re leaving too, and of course the airlines are hiring bigly right now. And (think I’ve mentioned before) the promotion process is stupid. They’ll take a pilot out for school or staff and then have to retrain them after. That takes up RTU slots that new pilots could’ve taken. And it takes 2 and a half years to train a pilot. That’s an awful lot of time.
Mike likens the USAF to owning a large expensive money pit house with all sorts of construction projects going that they run out of money for. Which isn’t what you do when you’re broke. When you’re broke, you live simply. They could start by just retraining experienced pilots at their next assignment instead of making them go to RTU. Yes, it’s a risk but when you’re broke you have to make some compromises. Mike didn’t go back to RTU when he changed back to an old airframe because he was in the reserves, they just trained him there. Anyway, I could rant for a long while and mostly I shouldn’t. It’s a mess.

Actually, if you have an ounce of humility, you’d have to admit we probably all are here because of men, famous or not. Men who fought wars, men who drilled for oil, men who built monuments, men who cured illness, or men like Christopher Columbus, who sailed the ocean blue

Oh man!!! The first comment I meant to post must have gotten eaten LOL … Sorry guys, was trying to post about a video I just saw on the HPV vaccine (if you have daughters, don’t let them get vaccinated).
Here’s the video (again, so sorry!)

Yes, Ame… and that knowledge has been out there for years now, but they still push it. And last I heard (which may be outdated now hopefully) they were pushing it REALLY hard for boys of all things. Of course none of our kids are going to get that vaccine.
But they provide it in schools sometimes… and without needing a parent’s consent. So if your kids don’t understand what it is, they could almost be tricked into getting it.
We got married super young, so my ob-gyn back then encouraged me strongly to get that vaccine, which I knew I didn’t need because most women only get that virus/cancer through sleeping around with lots of different men. I told her this, and she siad it was still good for if my husband cheated on me. Tells you what feminists think about (always female insurance of a way out if the man can’t provide/be faithful, or a license to be promiscuous w/o consequences).
Anyway… I knew back then not to get it because I think even then it didn’t have a good reputation. Just passing it on for anyone reading who hasn’t heard about it yet

I don’t have enough bandwidth up here to watch long videos…is there something about the HPV vaccine that is different from other vaccines? I’ve heard when they did the testing, the adjuvant alone gave the same results as the vaccine (saline control did not). Think it was something like 2 percent autoimmune response in the vaccine and adjuvant only injections.

I think we give far too many vaccines, fwiw. Flu vaccines bother me most as they are essentially pointless and ineffective, especially in the populations that need it most. Most haven’t done double blind control studies nor have they studied potential cumulative effects of getting multiple mandatory injections at one time.

I’ve never had a flu shot. I haven’t gotten the flu in decades. (Well, I do wash my hands a lot.) There’s a thing about information scientists.
They might ask, “Okay, how many flu viruses are out there, this year?”
“Oh, say 1,000.”
“So which one am I being injected with?”
“The one the guy in the cube at the CDC decided on last year.”

I had the flu a little over a year ago. Think I got it from someone who took the vaccine, got the flu but felt just good enough to go out and about and spread it all around.
Side note: They sent my nasal secretions to the CDC to make this year’s vaccine, so anyone who got the flu shot this year…you’re welcome. 😆

I’m always reluctant to post anything about military aircraft here. With good reason. See above: The Liz is friends with the author of the Century aircraft design/development position paper. Obviously, I know 10% of what she knows, and maybe .1 of 1% of what the husband knows. But I think the subject is fascinating.
Sure, airplanes are more complicated now but we built the SR-71 in 12 months, and these motherfuckers spent 20 years deploying a slow, short-range pig that can’t dogfight John Boyd’s F-16, for $100mm/copy.
(One day, John Boyd will be an acknowledged American hero, but that moment — we are outside his OODA Loop — has not arrived. Of course, Boyd went to Iowa.)
I do know things about software and fast-build and the government procurement of buzzwords, and I can break down how LIz’ friend here is promoting mystery software. I’ve sold stuff to DARPA and all the other OGAs. And this is why I’m living in a tent by a Minnesota lake until the frost. I met exactly one guy, on the government side, in 20 years, we would have considered for employment. Uno. Un. Ein.

I nearly died of adenovirus once. I had never heard of it. There is no commercial, civilian vaccine. All military personnel are vaccinated, the internet tells me. Presents as “flu”. I live alone, I’m fine with being uncomfortable for a few days while my body resumes control. The locals said I had the “flu”.
So, 104 temp, on the respirator at the village “hospital”, going straight into the ground. The university hospital diagnosed it in 30 minutes and gave me the shot. Fine in a couple of days.

The pilot shortage disappears if the USAF pays $200K/year, free (decent) housing, medical; tuition remission. You’d have CalTech Ph.D’s quitting for that job.

Flu vaccine is mandatory (given to to us at no charge) where I work (in healthcare). You must have had a documented adverse reaction that required treatment to get out of it.

It was mandatory for me when I was working at the hospital too. Mandatory annually for military members also.

I agree money would solve a lot of problems, BV. But there are some quality of life issues that need to change also. They have no shortage of “takers” who want to fly (and are willing to sign on 10 years mandatory service in advance), they don’t have the instructors. They’ve started offering incentives for retirees to return to active duty if they want.
Think the biggest thing is all the moves. It’s really hard on the families. They’re starting to get smarter on that too, it used to be “move up or out” (go through hoops to get promoted or they’ll kick you out), recently a friend of ours (Lt Col) was able to swing a five year long assignment as an instructor for “fat Amy” (their name for the F35). This assignment was huge for them because it will be near a good school for their boys who both have autism issues. He won’t get a promotion out of it (most likely), but cost to gains now he is willing to stay in when otherwise he would have left.

Liz – what is their point to move families around like that? from the little info here and the outside-looking-in, it seems very arrogant and controlling, manipulative.

Experience (theoretically). They try to put them in jobs to get them to the next level for promotion (fill the squares for the promotion board). We had one assignment that lasted three years but that is really rare. In order to fill the squares they had to change Mike’s job description three times (though he was doing the same thing).
There’s a bit of an arrogance…you’re not wrong, but (IMO) it usually comes from the bitterness of living that lifestyle. The boss’s kids all went to four different high schools, heck one went to five…so you can just suck it up and do the same, if you’re really a team player.
That sort of thing. Creates a lot of ill will. There aren’t a lot of high ranking people who don’t have RBF…including spouses. That’s a generalization, but it’s true enough.

A while back (if memory serves) put in a rule that said they wouldn’t make anyone move for three years unless they wanted to. The intention was good but the reality on the ground didn’t change. Sure, you don’t have to move…but if you don’t, up or out. And then there was the RIF (reduction in forces) where commanders were required to choose a number of people from their squadrons to remove before the end of their service time…and factors like that went into the equation.

Blue blood corporate America moved men every two-three years (e.g., IBM meant “I’ve been moved.” when I was coming up.)
I don’t know anyone who used to do what I did, who is not divorced. I mean, I don’t know anyone. Not one man. You’re actually a lot more valuble if you’re divorced. Imagine you are a schoolteacher and you don’t know ANYONE who is not divorced. It’s like that.

I’m not sure if they said it was the aluminum (?) that was in both the adjuvant and vaccine, but many scientists/doctors thought it was too high and causing brain damage. I actually knew a lady at our old church whose daughter got that vaccine and started having horrible neurological side effects… kind of destroyed her entire life in a way. Just wanted to put it out there for any readers with daughters (and boys – so weird they’re pushing it for them)!
Here’s a shorter version of that video I think:

Sorry it’s such depressing news! We’re not anti-vaxxers by any means, but our kids are on a much slower schedule and we decline some when they’re under 1 (they’ want to give them a few usually before they leave the hospital at birth… just kind of insane, it’s different from when we had our first son 9 years ago – they’ve increased everything).

vaccinations is such a hot topic and hugely divisive. there are people in our family i won’t even bring up the subject with.
it is shocking how many they demand to give now.
