As the age of first marriage has gone up, the signals young men receive have also been pushed out. In the 1950s and 1960s half of all (first) weddings occurred before the woman’s twenty first birthday. This meant that women were often scoping out potential husbands in high school. They didn’t necessarily marry the man they paired up with in high school, but the criteria they were using to pair up was generally a marriage minded criteria set. There was practically no time for an AF/BB split. So for a man who went to high school in the 50s or 60s, signaling provider capability was immediately rewarded in the SMP. They probably weren’t making any money yet, but women were looking for precursor indicators (work ethic, grades, secondary education plans, etc).
There are many points to make about this,
1. Incentives matter. The boys want the girls, they will do what needs to be done, if they can figure it out. Preparing for a hopefully prosperous future was something that was useful for a wife and society. Presently, the incentives are much reduced; video games give a better rate of return.
2. Youngsters were forced to consider their future. They still do, but it is normally vague stuff like work some, live in Mom’s basement, maybe get a degree, play around, etc. Hard thinking and the advice in doing that hard thinking are presently lacking (expect for UMC types, who emphasize degrees, but are lacking in other areas). As an example, a nephew just got his first job ever at age 34.
3. Both sides were forced to grow up fully in their 20s. Some might consider this to be good, some might consider this to be bad. In any event, it happened.
4. Women don’t have the time to develop the bad attitudes and behaviors in their 20s. Let’s face it, it is not good. Ask yourself this question: does anything good developmental-wise come out the modern woman’s time in their twenties? Perhaps she develops some job skills, but she absorbs lots of BS from her friends and others. And how about those explore yourself/get to know the world experiences?
5. Huge reduction in alpha widows. This might be the biggest point of all. The fertile ground where they form just wasn’t there. To summarize the present day damage, married women who are alpha widows make poor wives and mothers because they are always pining for the past and resentful of the present. We do care about the children, don’t we? Apparently not.
Please feel free to add your own
As I mentioned before, my aunt told me half the girls in her high school class (1959 I believe) were married in the first 3 months after graduation and the bulk of the rest by the same time the following year.
Women get nothing from screwing around in their 20’s that will be of any use to her, her husband or her kids later in life.

I agree with most of the post, and actually, it made me wonder why my ex- married me so young. She must have had a vein of retrospective longing for the prior generation’s approach. We were worlds apart socially and all I had outwardly were qualities people in her world laughed at, in regard to marriage criteria.
I think my daughter got a great deal out of her 20’s in NYC, to contest one point. I have no idea what her social life was like, other than one disastrous affair with a NYTimes reporter who dumped her with a text on New Years Eve. And I don’t want to know. But she worked her ass off, acquired her fourth language, paid her own rent. If I were to bet she’ll have a child and be a CEO by 35. For women who interpret feminism as equality of opportunity AND responsibility, the world’s their oyster. Everybody’s starving for a woman with brains, looks and good manners who doesn’t throw down the victim card 17 times a day.

I asked the waitress to speak with a manager. Instead, I spoke with a white restaurant owner. I explained to him why the photograph was offensive. Evidently, someone else had made a similar comment about the photograph before.
Yet, the photograph remained on the wall. He said he would talk to the other owners and get back to me. While leaving, I asked him had he spoke with the other owners. He had not spoken with them, but mentioned Google said it’s coal miners after work.

Which is the exact opposite of how 98% of women exit their 20’s and enter their 30’s. Your daughter is an extreme outlier.

What the blackface story reinforces is that most of the chattering class has never seen a man at work with his hands. So another clown in need of a clown car

Well, I wasn’t trying to generalize from my daughter’s life experience, which as you imply, would be really stupid. I apologize if I sounded so dumb as to be bragging on Grace because “she’s not like that.”
But if I accept that she is an outlier, then the fact of her being an outlier supports your point. And perhaps I’m saying that it would be so much easier for young women if they took at look at their forbears and terminated their sexual politics thought with “equality of opportunity”. Because of my own family history I don’t subscribe to the popular view here that women are useless in professional capacities (outside the home). They are useless the moment they don’t recognize sex differences, evident in thought or action, or the moment they refuse to work and sacrifice as men do with no promise of real reward.

@BV I’m in healthcare, which means I’m surrounded by women all day, every day I’m at work. I’m on a team of 6 people where I’m the only man. I’m fortunate though in that I’m on the best team (by a mile), with the best manager (a woman) and the best director (another woman). 80 women on the floor. Maybe 15 worth a spit, 5 of those on my team. There is no effing way I could stay there otherwise.
So I don’t believe that all women can’t be solid contributors, I just most of them aren’t and we’d all be better off if they were full-time wives and mothers instead.

A tell-all in Politico from a former Transportation Security Agency worker confirms pretty much every awful thing you’ve suspected of those annoying and invasive airport pat downs. But that doesn’t mean the TSA is ineffective at its job. That’s because the TSA’s main purpose isn’t security so much as “Security Theater,” or the appearance of safety. Let us explain.

Before we had kids when my wife and I would fly she would always, ALWAYS be pulled out of the line for the pat-down, enhanced search. Finally, on the 4th or 5th time in a row, we just asked the woman. Hey, this happens all the time. Why does she kept getting picked for this?
She honestly replied, “Well, she doesn’t look like she is going to make a fuss about it.” That’s it. They had to do so many pat-downs to make the numbers or something. Had eff all to do with securing anything but their jobs.

i know some very successful career women who also have successful marriages. they seem to be ones who have high energy levels – probably a bit ADHD. they can multi-task and mentally organize well – meaning they’re able to do many things and keep them separate in their minds and file things away quickly. their husbands are flexible and willing to help enormously in the home AND/OR they have family who take over the parenting roles AND/OR they’re financially able to easily pay someone else to do all the things in the home, including being available to care for the children.
my Husband has two older children in their 30’s. his son and DIL both have high-earning careers and three rotating nannies. his daughter rags on her brother and his wife all.the.time, continuously, about this. i have zero problem with it. his daughter and her husband live across the street from her husband’s parents and his sister and her husband, in a small town. they have never fully cared for their own children b/c his family helps so much. in my mind, it’s no different than having 3 rotating nannies. daughter is doing the same thing as son with the ONLY difference being son is paying for it. daughter and husband can also afford to pay for it as they both have lucrative careers, but they don’t need to. therefore she thinks she’s *better* than her sister in law.
Temple Grandin has been mentioned to us quite a few times. it truly is amazing what she has been able to do. but not one person who mentioned her to us also mentioned the extreme wealth she grew up with allowing her parents to send her to specialists who were able to help her with her special needs. absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Aspie Girl had a meltdown at our PCP’s office, of all places, a couple years ago. LOVE this PCP – a woman who is about my age with kids similar ages of my kids. she’s truly gifted at what she does. unfortunately she’s become super popular and is hard to get into now. anyway, Aspie Girl came to an age where she was able to gain a fairly accurate measure of the sacrifices i’ve had to make to be her Mama, and she felt immense guilt. i told her that i believe God hand-picked me for her when i was a little girl. i remember being four years old and knowing that i wanted to be a wife and mommy, and every single decision i made from that point on was with that goal in mind. during hard days and years, i’ve known that *this* is what i’m supposed to do. it’s not that i couldn’t do anything else or that i couldn’t have a career. my last full-time job before kids wanted to send me back to school and pay to finish my degree. i knew i didn’t want that, so i bugged out and got a part time job somewhere else.
my $.02, fwiw … there are *some* women who are terrible mothers. they should get a job and hire someone else to care for their kids if they have them. there are some women who are amazing career women who are also mothers. as long as (1) her Husband supports her and they work all the details out together to the satisfaction of both, and (2) as long as the mother is willing to make choices to sacrifice her career, if/when necessary, for the benefit of her children, i’m okay with that.
when the kids know Mom and Dad are never available, that’s bad regardless of whether or not Mom works.
when the kids know Mom and Dad are always available and do every thing possible to be there for their kids, that’s good.

i have a probably odd question. my dad has offered for me to call him … just to keep up. he likes to tell people about his family b/c it makes him look good to know things. but, i also think that as he’s close to 80, there’s nostalgia in there, too.
he has never acknowledged any of the bad things he did to me and has even gone so far as to not believe he did anything bad at all. the bad things started when i was very little between the ages of 5 and 7 when i was put in a room in the basement while the rest of the family lived upstairs.
my mother denied he ever did anything though later acknowledged she ‘did a lot of really terrible things to you.’ that’s more than enough info for me as i don’t remember it all. she did say my dad drank a lot back then and implied that, if he did do anything, he was really drunk.
i have never drank much, just a few sips here and there … mostly b/c alcoholism runs in both sides of my family and b/c i’ve been hypoglycemic since college, and the sugar in the alcohol makes me really sick. so i’ve never been drunk.
so … my question … is it possible he sincerely doesn’t remember the bad things he did to me if he were, in fact, drunk when he did them?

Not really…because many don’t have kids in wedlock (or at all) anymore.

It’s this male ability to put emotions aside in order to make a fundamental decision that I think that women and cucks don’t understand.
Although having an abortion appears to be pretty easy for many. As long as everybody vocally agrees that ‘it was the best thing for everyone’. Including the child?
Perhaps the real difference is that men(tm) understand what they’re doing and live with the memory (and perhaps guilt), whereas women and cucks do it and demand that no-one criticise them for it.

Guilt and shame to (a lot) of women and cucks is the worst thing that can happen because it elicits badfeel. Badfeel and boredom are the worst feels imaginable to them.
Well if we got back to objective morality instead of feels determining morality…perhaps they wouldn’t be in such a bad state.
And quite often I noticed most abortion supporters lump it in with the social justice policies. I’m not sure they get they are supporting the greatest social injustice but trying to cover it up with pet project social justice.

Central Colorado is the coldest but it’s dry. Quebec (-40C or F; I think that’s where the scales cross) was absolutely miserable, but Son#1, age 12 or so, was going to ski and thus so did I. It was -54 in Minneapolis where I was working on a deal deadline once. The governor cancelled school, and a lot of people were genuinely miffed, since that had never happened before and they thought the Minnesot-uns were going soft. My rentacar was in an unheated garage and I had to drive it 30 minutes to the site.
So, no, this week is party-time by comparison (now that the wind has stopped blowing). Everyone’s reaction, however, is radically softer, and did I mention everyone can Get off my Lawn?

My brother (three hospitalizations this year) and little sister (medicated to the max and ECT every three weeks) are the major casualties in my family. As children we were told that everything going on was fine and not to bitch about it and if we couldn’t be more loving to our mother we were bad bad people. This was my father’s one life regret, but he wasn’t strong enough to prioritize his children over the malevolent schizo. On one level he forfeited his legacy by doing so.
My brother just texted me and said he would have no more contact with me. We did have viable conversations on the funeral weekend for the first time in five years. Before that (he came over from Germany and cared for me when I was getting out of the hospital); it had been 20 years. It’s clear that his doctors and/or his wife have just made plain that there’s no reason to relive the past, i.e., revisit impossible experiences, in late middle age, which is what you do when you reunite as ‘family.’ He’s the only one of four childen who is not divorced.
I think this is why it was a no-brainer to reach the decision we did on the putative-mother-in-place, and why I think Ame should be very careful about having any contact with her father. What is the upside? Some Hallmark Cards weepy movie reconciliation? The dad is just trying to offload his guilt and responsibility to the person he abused. That’s some weapons grade gaslighting (mindfucking) right there and hence … fuck him.

U.S.—In a rare moment of honesty this week, Democrats finally just came right out and admitted that they actually support infanticide.
After a Virginia lawmaker made an utterly repulsive defense of abortion during birth and the state’s governor calmly discussed the killing of an already-born child should the mother so choose, the nation at least had to admit that Democrats were finally being honest about something.
“Usually, we try to hide behind the ‘pro-choice’ label or spew a bunch of crap about the mother’s health or something,” Virginia governor Ralph Northam said. “But we’re going to part ways with our usual deceitful methods and actually just be upfront about our position here: infanticide? We’re totally cool with it. We’re all about being pro-choice, no matter if we’re talking about a baby that’s in the womb or one that’s already been born, patiently standing by to see if their mother decides they’re a person.”
The nation agreed that this approach is preferable to the usual doublespeak exhibited by Democrats on the abortion issue.
“It’s kinda refreshing, to be honest,” said one man in Florida. “At least now we know what we’re getting with the Dems—before I couldn’t tell if their support for abortion really had to do with women’s rights or if they secretly wanted to kill babies.”
“It’s a nice change of pace,” he added

i often think of the power of Repentance. so few choose it, but when they do it has the power to transform all relationships. Repentance = owning your own stuff, taking responsibility for it, acknowledging it, accepting it, intentionally seeking forgiveness with confession, and intentionally living different b/c it’s the right thing to do … allowing those you’ve wounded to see a long track record of your changed behavior to prove you’ve truly repented, allowing them to build trust in their own time without demands for a relationship.

Anastasia Vashukevich, who goes by the alias Nastya Rybka on the internet, told CNN in a report published Tuesday that she made up the whole story as a means of getting out of a Thai prison last year.
Vashukevich was doing hard time in Thailand for offering her sex coach talents to the locals. Arrested and convicted for solicitation, she was sent to prison. Allegedly fearing for life behind bars, she decided to attract some international media attention with her story of having information that would link Trump to the Russian oligarchy. (RELATED: Report: FBI Agents Interviewed Russian Oligarch About Collusion Prior To Election)
She asked for political asylum in the U.S. to tell her story. She eventually received deportation back to Russia.

Did you catch that? Virginia’s governor said that if a baby is born alive despite the efforts of the doctor to kill the baby in an abortion, the infant would “be resuscitated” only “if that’s what the mother and the family desired.” In other words, a baby who survives an attempted abortion should be considered dead, so that caring for the baby would be considered “resuscitation.”

Consider the cliche The future hasn’t happened yet; it’s ours to invent.
Consider Luke 17:3 If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. NIV
Put those two together and forge your own path. Years after your father’s death, you will remember his reaching out to you. If you do not respond to him now, will you spend the rest of your life wondering “What if he would have repented to me if I had been strong enough to give him the time with me to do it?”
I think that is the issue that you really need to get a handle on now, because those thoughts will be with you for the rest of your life. Your father won’t.
Please note that I am not recommending that you accept his request for contact. I AM recommending you think through what your thoughts are likely to be in the future, and decide now based on what you want your thoughts to be then.
You might consider putting on paper a list of the issues you have that you want repentance from him for. Be as brief as you can be on each issue, but inclusive enough that it will jog his memory if it needs jogging (this would be the “confront” part from Luke 17:3). Begin the listing with a comment to the effect that his behavior has hurt you badly in the past and that you cannot establish any sort of connection with him unless that hurt is dealt with by him now and resolved to your satisfaction.
If you do that, and with that as a beginning, you should be able to tell in short order whether he “sees” you and is willing to work with you to resolve those issues (which would involve him genuinely repenting / appologizing for whatever you need repenting/appologizing for.
If you do this, and his response to you makes it clear that he is not willing to work with you on resolving the issues involved, you can sail off into your future with a clear conscience and nary a concern about “what if …”
Note that Luke 17:3 says “if they repent, forgive them”. If there is no repentence from your father, you are free to shake the dust off of your feet and walk away from him for good.
But … don’t let this exercise screw up your ability to be the rock that your daughters need you to be. That is why I think you need to keep everything on paper at the moment (both directions). Voice to voice will likely mess with your head too much – at least until you are convinced that he really is working with you to resolve your issues. Luke 17:3 only says “rebuke them” (and I would add, rebuke in love – even if only the love of Christ working through you, not anger). It doesn’t say you have to rebuke on the phone or in person.
The future hasn’t happend yet. It is yours to invent. With your dad back in it. Or with him excluded forever. Your choice.
I’m sure I won’t be the only one praying for you through this period of your life.

Following media coverage, the school district suspended Poplardo indefinitely, according to The Daily Wire. The new charges are “misconduct and conduct unbecoming a teacher, misconduct, incompetence, and insubordination” for showing The Truth About Sex and College, which features Daily Wire reporter Ashe Schow.
It certainly looks like retaliation against Poplardo by Superintendent Christopher Manno for discussing his suspension publicly.

Who can blame any man for not wanting to mentor women? They can try to make it illegal but men will find a way to avoid women and protect themselves. Women use the system for their own benefit and then complain when men won’t accommodate them in handing them the rope to hang themselves. Then they claim it’s “illegal” when men say “no thanks.” What a crock.

IF i were to reconnect w/my dad, i’d have to basically lie and connect with him in his reality, which is false. 😦
also … every time i’ve had any contact with him since i graduated from high school, it’s taken me about a month to recover. that’s not fair to my family, and it’s not fair to me.
btw – GREAT book on forgiveness: Forgiving the Unforgivable by Dr David Stoop.
forgiveness does not equal trust or relationship. you *can* forgive someone without having a relationship with them or trusting them.
trust must be earned.

Well, it’s certainly true that the “experts” don’t have the kind of authority that they possessed in the decade or two following World War II. Back then, the experts had given us vaccines, antibiotics, jet airplanes, nuclear power and space flight. The idea that they might really know best seemed pretty plausible.
But it also seems pretty plausible that Americans might look back on the last 50 years and say, “What have experts done for us lately?” Not only have the experts failed to deliver on the moon bases and flying cars they promised back in the day, but their track record in general is looking a lot spottier than it was in, say, 1965.
It was the experts — characterized in terms of their self-image by David Halberstam in The Best and the Brightest — who brought us the twin debacles of the Vietnam War, which we lost, and the War On Poverty, where we spent trillions and certainly didn’t win. In both cases, confident assertions by highly credentialed authorities foundered upon reality, at a dramatic cost in blood and treasure. Mostly other people’s blood and treasure.
And these are not isolated failures. The history of government nutritional advice from the 1960s to the present is an appalling one: The advice of “experts” was frequently wrong, and sometimes bought-and-paid-for by special interests, but always delivered with an air of unchallengeable certainty.
I want my damn flying car and moon base! But I’ll settle for a decent Milla Jovovich sex robot.

Bindel points to all kinds of societal reasons why makeup is a tool of the patriarchy. It sends “the message that we are not good enough as we are.” It sets an expectation “to look younger, sexier, taller, thinner, darker, lighter, smoother and just better.” It promotes “sexist stereotypes.” And on and on. But really Bindel’s message is that makeup is a tool men use to put “pressure on women to distort our natural appearance while [they] are free from such pressure.” You think you’re making a choice about what to wear, but you’re really just a victim of the patriarchy. Only I am right. Take off the makeup.
This kind of thought policing isn’t new. It’s one of the signature strategies of modern feminism. Whereas feminism used to be about women being allowed to make choices, it is now about women needing to toe the party line. Women must work, women must be pro-choice, women must support female political candidates over males regardless of ability, women must ditch their makeup and burn their bras. Whatever it is, if it’s deemed by some mysterious consensus of the group at large to be “oppressive,” then all women must ditch it. Even if they kind of liked it and were choosing it of their own free will.

It’s warmer today; wind chill -35. He needs to review the Gillette ad a few more times; he’s doing masculinity wrong.
I met my friend who is the bald man in the photo, out with his wife Saturday to watch the game at the bar. He’s been doing EMT/FD work for 20+ years. Apparently it was pretty gruesome fishing frozen children, frozen with their arms outstretched, out of the water. His wife whispered to me “BV he’s just not there yet. He has crying spells. At Tablet, Lee Smith has written persuasively about the toll the economics of the changing media landscape has taken on the content produced by today’s journalists, rather than just the number of reporters or editors, fact-checkers, or expense accounts an outlet can boast about having. As media companies have found their resources shrink, they found it more profitable to jettison some of the work from highly paid, more experienced reporters and editors in favor of increasingly ideological woke clickbait generated from young staffers, listicles, and fulsome explorations of things like the “internet culture” beat. The importance of agitating for political priorities and enforcing new cultural standards blinded many in the industry to the reality of their failing business model.
To the extent that many in the media industry noticed their dropping readership and the growing hostility of many Americans to their political hectoring, the media began to view dissenting customers as literal counter-revolutionaries to be pushed from civic life. “The last mass trials were a great success,” Greta Garbo’s Ninotchka intoned, with dramatic, Soviet earnestness in Ernst Lubitsch’s 1939 film. “There are going to be fewer, but better Russians.” So it goes with the dwindling number of the media’s consumers

Rip away. We did not put those childern in that position. Their piece of shit parents did
yep. and it’s nothing new that children pay the price of their parents’ stupid choices. and who are we to interfere in that, anyway?! we want people to let us raise our children as we see fit, but then we think it’s okay to tell others how to raise theirs … unless they’re murdering their kids. that one’s okay.

Ame – re. my response to you about your dad. I remember, even if imperfectly, most of what you have said about your family and dad over time. I understand that having him back in your life would mess with your head, which would have an effect on your daughters. That is why my emphasis was on thinking through now what you will be thinking after he is gone and there won’t be any do-overs. From the sound of things, it seems like you have a handle on that so that you won’t be bothered by thoughts of “what if I had given him one more chance …” Because those future thoughts are the thing that you need to be sure of now and create a defense against them happening in the future. Sounds like you’ve already created that defense.
Everybody desires to hear earthly daddy say “well done my child”. Those words help folks thrive, not just survive. Too many don’t ever get to hear that. The trick then is to associate with folks who can actually see your worth and let you know that they see it.

thank you, Richard. my dad has said those words, but he’s very much a PC sort of person … says whatever people want to hear to reach his end-goal.
this is the comment i deleted:
Richard – you have given a lot of wise advice.
when i went thru my Sexual Abuse Recovery Group we dealt with this almost exactly as you have written. the (subtle?) difference – and perhaps it’s just an articulation thing – is that forgiveness and trust were separated. we could forgive without their admission or repentance, but we did not have to re-engage without knowing we were safe and/or having them earn our trust. Forgiving the Unforgivable by Dr David Stoop is a book we read that i still highly recommend.
i did confront my parents at the time; they were still married. my dad tried to come up with every other man who could have slipped into the basement … we lived in a neighborhood where all the neighbors were close and did a lot together – including help each other finish out the basements … including the men getting together to play cards and drink – so they were at our house at times. but it wasn’t them. when i sent them an email telling them i forgave them, my mother came back accusing me of having been brain washed – literally – by my therapist. she listed this stuff i’ve never heard of. the only thing about that that i could possibly give my dad an ‘out’ on is that i do not know for sure that my mother shared the email with him though i can be fairly certain that she did given a plethora of other indicators.
i think it’s very likely my dad has completely deluded himself into believing he never did anything bad or wrong.
sending him a written list of his wrongs is not something i think i can do again – would go into remaining strong for my girls and myself.
a year or so this came up, and i said to him, “You have never even said you’re sorry for all the things you did.” his reply, “That’s what I don’t understand, Ame. What is it that you think I did?”
as a parent, i cannot imagine ever responding that way to my daughters. ever. i might correct their memory, but i would never respond that way. i would immediately apologize for hurting them b/c, whether intentional or not, if they were hurt, i’m sorry that they were hurt. my dad can’t even do that much … he can’t even say he’s sorry i was hurt.
what i was not prepared for as i aged was the continued desire to have a real relationship with my parents. i had imagined that it would diminish and even, perhaps, become non-existent. but … i cannot force them to have a ‘real’ anything much less a real relationship with me.
the biggest difference between my siblings and myself is that our parents got married b/c my mom was knocked up with me which caused all kinds of strife esp with my dad’s parents. my dad’s mother did love me as much as she could love anyone; i think that’s b/c i look a lot like her. but i think my mom deceived him and got pregnant b/c she wanted him to marry her, so she turned around and made me ‘perfect’ to him so he wouldn’t hate me. and while i think he did come to accept and even love me as much as he was capable, i also firmly believe there was a time when he did not want me. they were all very happy when they dropped me off in texas for college and headed back to florida.

given all that … there are a *few* things that, if he were willing, he could do that would be beneficial to myself and my daughters short and long term. but … the question for me is, at what cost?

was watching a few videos of a woman who is rather popular among christian women circles the last 25 years. watched some from about 20 years ago … watched another one that was last year. life – death of spouse, illness, family things – has not been kind to her. it was not simply in her appearance, it was in all of her.
my late Mentor was about 70 when i met her. she was spry and full of life, and her blue eyes could light up a dark room. she was the kind of woman you could point to and say, “When I get to be her age, I want to be like her.”
