Carousel Damage — Part I

The carousel damages women, but what are the mechanisms?  That is what this series is about.  Today’s entry is about the first time.

For some women, there is a bit of mythical something about the first time.  Undoubtedly this is partially because the pleasant sensation is the most novel that it will ever be.  In a sense, it is all downhill from there.  Back to the subject; this most intense experience will be remembered forever.  How might this memory be useful?

Since it is best for children to have a well functioning husband-wife team raising them, having this intense memory being associated with the husband can strengthen their bonds.  This might be especially useful down the line when the wife internally (or externally) starts complaining about her husband, as wives are wont to do.

The first time for most women is the harbinger of bad things to come.

There’s the general mechanisms all women have.

Then you pour on top of it artifical birth control which lulls them into some false security they won’t get pregnant and the lack of sex education about what it does to women. They aren’t men with breasts and sex is a big example why.

San Francisco Airport is pissed off, well actually its taxi parking lot and the back of the cabbie line is pissed on. And the airport is cracking down on cabbies who do their business outside in the lot. They wrote an open email to cabbies telling them they better stop using the parking lot as a bathroom and if they don’t comply they’ll be punished (no sh*t).

Do I know that this is what he was thinking? No, as I say, we only have her side of the story, and have no idea whether this guy was sincere in saying he felt “intimidated” by his lawyer-fiancée’s career. Whatever the case may be, however, he really lost nothing when she left, and has every reason to congratulate himself on dodging a bullet. Better to have her walk out before the wedding than to be crushed in a divorce.

On Friday afternoon, Vox’s Liz Plank posted a video that was apparently supposed to be comical (it’s not) and a giant screw you to pro-lifers (it’s not) in honor of soon-to-be-confirmed Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The video, though, is an even bigger fail than you might have anticipated — a spectacular failure that really makes you question how much these sexually liberated feminists actually know about sex.

Mocking pro-life pregnancy centers, Plank posed as a doctor at a “male masturbation crises center,” comparing ejaculated semen to an unborn child. To feminists, abortion should be legal and free from regulation because men are allowed to masturbate. Or something.

In the highly controversial area of human intelligence, the ‘Greater Male Variability Hypothesis’ (GMVH) asserts that there are more idiots and more geniuses among men than among women. Darwin’s research on evolution in the nineteenth century found that, although there are many exceptions for specific traits and species, there is generally more variability in males than in females of the same species throughout the animal kingdom.

Evidence for this hypothesis is fairly robust and has been reported in species ranging from adders and sockeye salmon to wasps and orangutans, as well as humans. Multiple studies have found that boys and men are over-represented at both the high and low ends of the distributions in categories ranging from birth weight and brain structures and 60-meter dash times to reading and mathematics test scores. There are significantly more men than women, for example, among Nobel laureates, music composers, and chess champions—and also among homeless people, suicide victims, and federal prison inmates.

Darwin had also raised the question of why males in many species might have evolved to be more variable than females, and when I learned that the answer to his question remained elusive, I set out to look for a scientific explanation. My aim was not to prove or disprove that the hypothesis applies to human intelligence or to any other specific traits or species, but simply to discover a logical reason that could help explain how gender differences in variability might naturally arise in the same species.

Three days later, however, the paper had vanished. And a few days after that, a completely different paper by different authors appeared at exactly the same page of the same volume (NYJM Volume 23, p 1641+) where mine had once been.

  21. Farm Boy says:

    About the above paper

Professor Senechal suggested that we might enliven our paper by mentioning Harvard President Larry Summers, who was swiftly defenestrated in 2005 for saying that the GMVH might be a contributing factor to the dearth of women in physics and mathematics departments at top universities.

  31. Farm Boy says:

Suzannah Weiss of Bustle explains that this threat to our sex lives is happening because “when people are held to gendered expectations in the bedroom, everyone misses out on being their authentic selves and connecting with their partners’ authentic selves.” This sounds serious. If only all those men who’ve been forced by society into being big, bad, “toxic” sex-monsters — stomping around waving their penises in the air with one hand and grabbing the butts of passing women with the other — were allowed to be their “authentic selves,” they’d suddenly put their penises away, give back all the butts they’d grabbed, and start discussing their emotions and giving each other mani/pedis

  32. Farm Boy says:

Asia Argento, the Italian actress and #MeToo movement leader who was recently accused of sexually assaulting an underage male actor named Jimmy Bennett, is now claiming that Bennett “sexually attacked” her in 2013. According to her attorney, Argento was the victim in the situation, which he summarized as “a misunderstood interaction between her and Bennett that was initiated by Bennett, perpetrated upon Asia, and resulted in her ‘freezing’ and being placed in a ‘state of shock.'”

I don’t believe her. In fact, this is a textbook example of why the fourth-wave feminist notion that we should automatically believe all victims is pernicious.

Why don’t I believe Argento? For one thing, she paid Bennett $380,000* to keep him quiet about it. For another, she took a post-sex photo with him in bed, and it does not show a woman who looks like she was just attacked.

Unlike the Lenny Bruce days, today’s authoritarians aren’t humorless elders of the village. Now they’re humorless, perpetually-aggrieved millennials who make the shrews of yesteryear seem like a free-wheeling frat party. To be sure, the original sin in this downfall from fun is the participation trophy era that cranked out a generation of emotional jellyfish, and that can be blamed on academics. Still, it’s the twenty- and thirty-somethings who are driving the insanity now.

On Thursday, the culture website Vulture posted a lengthy piece titled “The Joke I Most Regret.” The subtitle is “Comedians reflect on old material, evolution, and accountability.” The site says that it’s spending the week “exploring the many ways modern comedy has tapped into its serious side.”

OMFG! When are people finally going to admit the two genders are not equal???

The real truth is that one gender is not better than the other, or worse than the other, and definitely not equal to each other.

The two genders are complimentary to each other. Better at some things, and worse at others.

In the grand scheme of things, the two genders are equally as important – for differing reasons – but are by no means equal.

People need to admit that biological differences just are, whether you like the truth or not.

Yes, but only after an investigation, the results of which would then be made public by way of explanation. But simply disappeared? Never. If a formally refereed and published paper can later be erased from the scientific record and replaced by a completely different article, without any discussion with the author or any announcement in the journal, what will this mean for the future of electronic journals?”

As the pair took the podium to receive their awards, the crowd booed Osaka, and even the commentators tried to soothe Williams in defeat, clearly buying into her feminist rhetoric, leaving Osaka in tears, and apologizing for her own earned victory.

In the press conference that followed, Williams tried to play off her loss as the result of abject sexism on the part of both Ramos and professional tennis, suggesting that tennis lionizes players like John McEnroe — the “bad boy” of tennis who earned scorn for his on-court behavior — and claimed she was “fighting for women’s rights,” not just for herself but for Osaka, who out-played her.
