Explorers

A common refrain for late teens and early twenties is that one needs to explore oneself to learn what you and the world really are.  This typically in the western world manifests itself differently for the guys and gals.  Let us consider in more depth.

For the guys, he may preparing for his career.  Going to the University, working diligently, getting a degree (and often working at the same time).  Or he might be learning a skill, like auto mechanics, welding, etc.  Perhaps he joined one of the Armed Services to further his development.  Of course, there are fellas like one of my nephews, who just hung around the house and played video games.  I suggested that going to the local inexpensive community college to learn almost anything would be more effective with respect to “finding himself”, but I was shot down.  So, for the fellas, either they are normally working, or bumming around home.

As for the gals, “finding themselves” is often very different.  I have seen many a time when girls get to attend their university of choice (expensive ones at that), where their choice was made for totally frivolous reasons.  Sometimes they get to “study abroad”.  Often there are subsidized unpaid internships for them.  And finally, there is the ubiquitous “general travel to exotic locations” silliness.  Mom and Dad (and often especially Dad) pay for this.

In my case, I worked on farms in the hot summers; often covered with cow shit by the end of the day.  That builds character.  That helps one discover themselves.  As for the typical girls path, I am not exactly sure how it really helps them in the same manner.  Typically it allows them to do a combination of parlay their youth and beauty into favorable treatment, puff up their ego by being awesome, teach them to posture for progressive causes, etc.  All of these are useless to the world.  So one wonders how effective their attempt to explore oneself to learn what you and the world really are is.  At least I do.

    Farm Boy,
The way you state it, boys are left to their own devices to find a career path, and girls are just indulged. As a society, we are more than a little mixed up about what to do with girls.

Yes, the girls are indulged. Yet, at that age, they have all of the advantages. No wonder they become entitled.

If there really were a patriarchy, things would be different. Women’s reproductive capacity would be maximized in their fertile years and they would be free to pursue careers once the kids were in school, maximizing their contribution as workers.

On the previous thread, there was a photo of Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzizinski. While Joe posed at his ease, Mika took an odd pose that displayed her figure to great effect. She does have a great figure, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Or, anything else newsworthy?

One thing that may stop a lot of this is prosecuting Hillary. Whatever she is charged with may it be a slam dunk to prove that will put an end to quibbling.

I watched it. While The Private Man is demonstrating great dignity with his approaching demise and talks at length about it, he also throws us a few hard facts that I never knew about online dating. I be came interested in his blog because that was his forte. He admitted that he had to send out one hundred messages to result in one date, and he is a professional writer. Now, I know where thirst comes from. While most men quietly drop out, a few will send out messages in bulk, leaving women with the false impression there is demand for them from men.

Thank you for adding the picture to my comment. She is very attractive, but there is something odd about it. I think she is meant to be attractive to women, nominally heterosexual women.

OT – saw this word in a novel …

pusillanimous – “Its Latin origin — pusillus and animus — tells us that pusillanimous means “very small spirit.” If you are pusillanimous, pronounced “pew-sill-AN-ih-mus,” you don’t have the spirit — or the confidence or drive — to step up when it matters. The pusillanimous person stays quiet, doesn’t get involved, waits for someone else to take a stand — not out of laziness, but out of fear.”

San Diego State University violated “procedural fairness” by refusing to let a student accused of rape have an advocate “with the same or substantially similar skills, training and experience” as his accuser’s advocate, a California court ruled.

Judge Joel Wohlfeil ordered the university to “dissolve the finding” by Dr. Lee Mintz, who also served as the school’s investigator, that “John Doe” did not stop having sex with “Jane Roe” when she asked.

It also must take back its finding that Roe “became incapacitated” and Doe “continued to have sex with her.” Mintz characterized those findings as “sexual assault” and “rape.” . . .

Doe’s lawyer had presented text messages and phone records from Roe that undermined her claims about the duration of sex and her alleged incapacitation, noting she was able to walk “normally” out of Doe’s apartment and down to her friend on the street. A polygraph examination also supported Doe’s version of events, his lawyer said.

Wohlfeil’s Feb. 1 “minute order” denounces the university’s “well-intentioned, but deeply flawed, administrative system to investigate and review complaints of student misconduct,” which stacks the deck against accused students.

Neal’s girlfriend, Jane Doe, never accused him of wrongdoing, and famously stated, “I’m fine and I wasn’t raped.” But CSU-Pueblo initiated an inquiry into their forbidden relationship, which violated an informal rule about physical trainers dating athletes. The university prohibited them from contacting one another during the course of the investigation, but Doe paid little heed to the no-contact order and sent Neal several supportive messages

Hey, Ame. Not sure what my alma mater does, apart from lose football games.

OT: I did all the things that were supposed to lead to a productive family. After a while, I noticed it wasn’t happening (it was bound to be noticed sooner or later). I did eventually marry someone who at least knew not to advertise herself as a carousel rider.

What might have changed the outcome was accepting that I should spurn my peers, and go after the younger set before they’re spoiled. Might have had the same result (I was blue pill when I married, after all), but maybe not. Better than marrying a peer.

    Yoda,
The finding in the San Diego State case amounts to a retrial. What needs to happen is that these men are compensated for damages to the point where schools are filing for bankruptcy, and judges should stop protecting them. Add to that, the people who sit on these panels need to be held personally responsible, criminally and civilly.

The Colorado State-Pueblo is beyond belief. If there is no complaint from the alleged victim, there is no case.

Panty Peeler. Phat Bottom. And all the unfortunate beers that use the color of a woman’s hair that also coordinate with a beer style—Blonde, Amber—and take a large bra size to create a name. … This is still a male-dominated industry, both in terms of its employees and its customers. The jocular attitude that women are somehow beneath men or simply objects, however, is something that should have been eradicated a long time ago . . . We will not be quiet about this important issue.

All they need to do now is fix women, fix marriage and fix divorce too…while we continue to fix men the red-pill.

Online dating is not a good time investment for a man unless he is very physically attractive. And most very physically attractive men use online dating for hookups. The women who resort to online dating are, mostly, either (1) unattractive women; (2) divorced women who made a poor marital decision; or (3) desperate women with a looming appointment with The Wall or are past it.

The point that I failed to make is that Private Man promoted himself as an expert who could make online dating work. That it was a failure for him too is not so much of a condemnation of him but of the venue. I don’t think it is the guys who are making a mess of of it, but their reactions are compounding the problem. Also, the women who post their profile on online dating sites are a cross-section of all women, not any special case.

“The point that I failed to make is that Private Man promoted himself as an expert who could make online dating work. That it was a failure for him too is not so much of a condemnation of him but of the venue’

Yeah. PM tried, but online dating is purely visual based, and therefore, the only men who really do well at it are very physically attractive men. The entire point of online dating is to make it easier to select from a wide range of people you’d never otherwise meet, and to ease the awkwardness of rejection.

“I don’t think it is the guys who are making a mess of of it, but their reactions are compounding the problem”

How do you think guys are compounding the problem? What is the mess in online dating, beyond it basically devolving into Hookup Central? THe main mess I can think of is that it causes women to have extreme choice addiction, and feeds their delusions that they are still hot when they’re 5s or 6s at best, good only for a quick fuck. If these women had any value, they’d be able to find men out in real life without resort to online dating services. The only reason these women are even using online dating is because they are complete and utter real life failures in finding men with whom they can make anything work.

“Also, the women who post their profile on online dating sites are a cross-section of all women, not any special case.”

I don’t think so. Any woman worth a shit ought be able to find a man without using a computer program. They’re not a cross section of all women – at least not when you get up into the 30s and 40s/divorced crowd.
