Musings on the Future in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

It is sad that Carrie Fisher passed away.  Princess Leia was one of the great characters of the original Star Wars Trilogy.  In the sequel The Force Awakens we find that she and Han Solo are no longer together, which makes everybody sad.  Has Solo is still being Han Solo, while she is this general with a depressing demeanor. It so happens that the next Star Wars movie has already been filmed, one with her playing a prominent role as the general. So what will they do?  Will they refilm parts of it to give her a heroic death?  Will they use a CGI version of her to do so?  Perhaps the producers will feel that her character deserves to die for past sins; that is, being too feminine at times (not all the time) in the original Trilogy.

Anyway that you look at it, the old characters are dying off.  Since Luke is white and male, he is probably next.  Chewbacca is lucky that he has brown fur, though he is male.   So now we have Darth Emo (white male) against a bunch of non-white and/or non-male characters.  So the war on white men continues.  Will this conflict bring balance to the Force?  Probably not, as there are lots more movies that can be made if it does not.

I don’t know what Disney will do, but they paid four BILLION for Lucasfilm and they will want to recover that plus interest. While George Lucas could take license because he started from scratch, Disney can’t.

What is wrong with liking Princess Leia?

    FML,
I don’t think that a transgender Chewbacca would do it for me. Besides, he is not a bear.

  29. Does anyone else think it’s weird that Debbie Reynolds died of a stroke one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher died of a heart attack? What are the odds? 😦

There is significance and I don’t believe in coincidence. However, it had to be a hard shock for a mother to see her daughter precede her in death.

A lot of my elderly relatives have died over the last 12 months. In my family, if the men live to old age, they usually live longer than the women, and are several years older than their wives, and the widows die shortly after their husbands.

  33. Cill says:

If a family values commitment, and they live into old age as couples, there will be spates of bereavement when a generation of them reach their late 80s and 90s. In my large extended family, when late in life a woman loses her husband or vice-versa, she or he will die shortly after. The operative words here are “late in life”. In my family, at old age, there seems to be a connection between a person experiencing bereavement and the same person dying soon after.

At the age of 84, Debbie Reynolds was late in life. I don’t like to extrapolate from an experience as personal as bereavement, but maybe there was a connection in her case as well.

    Cill,
I do see it as fairly common. Long time couples don’t do well if split up.

    Bloom,
My first thought about it was that the daughter had some kind of unhealthy dependence on the mother.

Fuzzie – idk about ‘unhealthy dependence’ with a mother-daughter relationship, especially at them at their ages. their public worlds isolated them in significant ways, and only they could truly know and understand one another. that creates a very unique bond. my girls and i are the only ones who truly knew who their dad was and what he was capable of; it creates a bond among the three of us that no one else can experience. my oldest and i are the only two who truly know and understand what it was like raising her younger sister; no one else was there, no one else knew or knows what we went through. that creates a very unique bond that no one else can ever experience with us.

i wouldn’t be surprised at all if her mom couldn’t survive without her daughter. i can see myself in a similar situation, ‘late-in-life,’ with my girls.
