Wives Drinking Too Much

In a recent thread, commenter Deti suggested that wives should not drink and Yoda seconded the notion. I wrote something terse about alcoholism and stay at home mothers. It was then suggested that I write a post. To the reader, understand that this is first hand experience. I am relating experiences about my mother.

The problem with drinking and stay at home moms is that there is no check on their behavior. If she had to work, she would be expected to show up sober. In my mother’s case the drinking started when she prepared dinner and it would continue until bedtime. To minimize our exposure as kids, we ate separate from our parents and stayed away from the kitchen. My father would do as much. There were frequent blow ups. It all started when I was eight or nine and it didn’t stop until I moved out of the house.

I am not writing this to elicit sympathy but to warn, excessive drinking by women is a serious problem that will not go away by itself. Maybe a few you have anecdotes to share.

i have definitely seen excessive drinking become an issue among women … with/without children … married/single … sahm/working mom. i also know many for whom it’s not. but for those whom it is, they definitely drink a lot.

    Farm Boy,
Half the people out there do not drink and never have. I guess they feel that they have little to gain from it.

Delayed by the Second World War and Korea, my mother did not marry until she was thirty. By the time I turned eight or nine, she had her first blow up. That was after her second miscarriage and I think she thought that was it. Part of it may have been her best friend, my godmother. She remained single her whole life and maybe the lifestyle, the path not taken, filled my mother with regret.

I am going to take this thread off topic a little. What is it with all the women getting plowed before they have sex with strangers as part of hookup culture? Then, why do feminists have to claim that these women who got themselves drunk to the point where they can’t remember, can’t give consent for sex? It wasn’t that long ago that women weren’t about to get drunk with strangers to avoid stuff like this.

They once gave a bunch of college students a placebo and said it was alcohol. Researchers observed that the women got very ‘flirty’ and the men louder.

As for my family, I only use wine for cooking (don’t drink at all, never have) my husband has the ocasional beer. Thankfully it makes him sleepy rather than violent. You *can* control your wifes drinking as a husband, just cut the grocery budget to zero and do the shopping yourself. Where is she going to get wine? Though I realise many women have their own bank accounts (my mother did and she was always in the red, I get cash, much easier to keep to the budget!)

The going unchecked thing goes for all kinds of disfunction. People fear male pedophiles, because that’s stranger danger. Women pedophiles just harm their own kids.
You could literally sit on the couch eating bonbons and ignore the kids or have them watch cartoons the entire day, and nobody would know. Or you could be struggling and suffering and nobody would know.
It’s a good thing for husbands to unexpectedly come home early. Either delight and surprise wifey, or be better informed of what needs fixing.

My husband could only be home on the weekends at one period in our lives, and I had little ones. I got lots of calls at random and set times, expected and unexpected visits from inlaws and a few early homecomings from him. I saw it as him supporting me through a rough time, but reading this, I realise there is an element of control as well. He was right to do so – he’s responsible for his family and uses whatever means are convenient to make sure everything is alright.

I’ve been raised to see drinking alcohol as trashy and unladylike, even the fancy drinks. Kind of like the girl in the Pirates of the Carribean movie said… Rum is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels 🙂

I’ve long noticed that the US (at least in the media) is rather schizophrenic about alcohol. It’s something that can be abused, just don’t abuse it…how hard is that?

I genuinely don’t understand why it’s such a tricky issue, but I’m fine with non-drinkers. Alcofrolics are a drag to be around (at best). I’d rather mix with tolerant abstainers than sots.

  21. thedeti says:

I didn’t suggest, or intend to suggest, that married women should never drink alcohol. That’s not what I said at all. What I suggested and intended to say was that married women should not drink in bars or hang around bars frequently.

The alcohol is certainly part of what I’m talking about. But I am really talking about more the “party lifestyle”.

The party lifestyle is hanging around single men who are looking for sex and who, frankly, do not care about you or your marriage. And why should they? It’s YOUR relationship that’s being neglected and besmirched. If I were a single man hanging around parties and bars, I would not give a single fuck about a woman’s marriage. I will presume ANY woman hanging out there and pounding back booze is looking for action.

It’s being in and exposing oneself to a meat market environment full of single men wanting sex. It’s getting intoxicated in that environment where everyone knows what the purpose of that environment is — to meet people who are looking to hook up or watch others hook up and get entertained in the process. It’s the impaired judgment and lowered inhibitions that always goes with intoxication.

It’s getting intoxicated in public around people you don’t know very well. It’s getting intoxicated in public around coworkers, supervisors and potential business associates who will make judgments about you and draw conclusions about you, whether you like that or not. It’s hanging around women, married or single, who have the party lifestyle attitude toward life, drinking, socializing, and men. It’s the staying out late away from husband and children. It’s the neglect of husband and children. It’s the message you send to your husband and children that you’d rather be out partying than with them.

Most importantly it’s doing this repeatedly as a significant part of your social life. I don’t have a problem with wives who do this once or twice a year, i.e. go to a bar for some drinks with their other married friends for a while, without their husbands. What I do have a problem with is wives doing this once or twice a week, every week, as a pillar of their social lives. I don’t have a problem with one or two drinks. I do have a problem with wives getting falling down obnoxious drunk in public, and acting the fool, like a college student slut would. A married woman simply does not act like this. Or should not.

I don’t have a problem with wives hanging around their married friends at a bar once or twice a year. I do have a problem with a wife hanging around single and divorced women, drinking at bars, watching their single and divorced friends drape themselves over single men who are obviously looking for sex. I have a problem with married women putting themselves in that environment repeatedly, making a habit of it and making that an integral part of one’s social life.

I do have a problem with a wife inserting herself into that meat market which we all know exists, and watching her single friends overdose on all that attention and validation. It’s all too easy for that married woman to want some of that attention and validation for herself. She is hanging around men and intentionally exposing herself to and interacting with men who are more attractive than her husband. Come on — everyone knows what is going on here. It’s about getting some of that dopamine rush of attention from Alpha McGorgeous. Even if she doesn’t fuck him, she absolutely LOVES and CRAVES the attention she gets from him.

And even if she doesn’t fuck Alpha tonight, there’s always next week, where she’ll see him again, get his number. Eh. It’s just some texting right? It’s just some talking right? It’s just some touching right? It’s just some kissing right? Yup. Talk to JudgyBitch about that, who, even as we speak, is melting down in public, publicly dissing her husband, and obviously crushing very, very hard on a man she is spending a lot of time with away from her husband. See how easily that happens? And it didn’t even involve booze.

Most married women who do this the right way, don’t make a habit of it. They do it very, very infrequently. And they usually go with their husbands such that the wives are in the bar in one place, but the husbands are in the bar in another, socializing amongst themselves. They don’t stay out until 4 am. They are usually home by 11 pm or midnight.

It’s not so much the booze. It’s the party lifestyle that the booze fuels and facilitates.

Love you and your stuff right back. But I hope that you’re wrong.

Whether Americans like it or not, who you choose will have a huge effect on the world. An earned effect (there’s no element of bitching here, merely a recognition of reality). The chances of BREXIT actually happening will also be affected, it still is not done by any means. If America turns away from globalist corruption and destruction of the good people, the whole world gains hope.

The ride to the BREXIT referendum was a highly uncomfortable one, I hope that came across in the dross that I wrote at the time. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to count their chickens too soon. But from where I sit, there are huge parallels between this election of yours and the brexit referendum. People vs elites. Media vs the truth. Corrupt establishment vs grass roots normal peeps. Project Fear.

I must admit that I don’t look forward to the period after the election whichever way it goes. Bloodshed seems pretty likely. Hopefully you can settle up with the money men behind all the socially destructive movements.

I hope you still have enough Anglo Saxon Fuck You left as a society. I wasn’t sure that we did, but we scraped it…so far. And sentiment is moving in the right direction too.

Well, regarding the Trumpinator’s chances. People putting their money on the line are causing the odds on a victory to drop from 5/1 to 5/2 since the email investigation was announced.

During BREXIT it was noted that big bets were going on remain, but a far larger number of small bets (i.e. the proles) were going on BREXIT. People just wondered why if the polls were going the wrong way, why did pretty much everybody they speak to want OUT? It was worth a bet. Obviously one has to remember selection bias issues, but even then…

I was reasonably optimistic up until the Martyrdom of St Jo of Cox which put the wind up me for a while, which was in the week before the vote. If I were Bill or Chelsea, I’d be keeping safe lest someone worked out that all illary needed was sympathy and a big event to take people’s minds off of tricky issues.

I was considering a flutter (my first ever official bet on anything) on Trump, but the odds crashed…too late for me anyway

Former US Attorney for DC: New Hillary Email Probe Was Result of ‘Revolt’ Inside FBI

Former United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Joe diGenova suggested Friday James Comey’s reopening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails was the product of a “revolt” inside the FBI.

While speaking with WMAL’s Larry O’Connor, diGenova was asked what Comey meant by saying newly discovered Clinton emails from Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin’s devices “appear to be pertinent” to the FBI’s prior investigation.

“It tells me that the original investigation was not thorough, and that it was an incompetent investigation,” diGenova said, “otherwise they would have discovered this — and I’ll tell you why.”

“These were found on the phone that was used by Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin,” he said. “Why was that phone not looked at originally?”

“There could be one explanation: Huma Abedin may have denied that any other phone existed, and if she did, she committed a felony. She lied to the FBI just like General Cartwright, and if she did, she’s dead meat, and Comey knows it, and there’s nothing he can do about it.”

diGenova continued: “And why this letter was sent today was very simple: the agents came to Comey yesterday, they told him about the evidence, and he said oh ‘S’, and realized that his goose was cooked, that this would prove conclusively that his original investigation was incompetent, and he knew that the agents running the Weiner case would leak it if he did not send this letter to congress.”

“And I’ve also been told something very significant, it’s been reported that those laptops [belonging to Clinton aides Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson] were destroyed, they were not, and the reason is the FBI agents refused to do it.”

North Harbour won the overall NZ championship. North Otago won the Brian Lochore Cup and Wanganui won the Colin Meads Cup.

Talking about alcohol, it’s my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary today. I’m going to give them a couple of dozen bottles of Cill’s Draught Down Under and I’ll help them to drink it. I’ll take a load of scallops and mussels and bbq them in fritters or batter, wash them down with the CDD. Scallop fritters and CDD… Sumo himself would be in raptures.

Someone did a huge survey a fair few decades back. Life expectancy vs alcohol consumption. From memory of a casual look at the results graph…

Teetotallers and 60 odd units per week had the same life expectancy. Everyone in between lived longer. Peak was 30-35ish.

Current, bullshit, recommendation is 14 units per week. 2 or 3 a day, with a couple of rest days so the liver can have a breather. Same for men and women…so you know it’s bullshit just from that.

The Irish have bigger units. Men 21 per week. Women 14.

The survey is very old, But was very big. I’m not aware of any more recent medical research that isn’t likely to have been agenda driven. There seems to be a continuing effort to reduce limits for reasons unknown.

  89. Fuzzie, my mom was a teetotaler and was always super paranoid about alcohol. She made it very taboo, and implied if someone drank a single drink, they’d automatically and inevitably have a drinking problem. I think it was a bad message to send, that it’s all or nothing. We had no examples of “moderate and appropriate” drinking. I would agree w Spawny and have heard others from Europe say Americans in particular seem to have a binge drinking approach to alcohol vs a balanced one. My brother started binge drinking in high school, then continued into a very alcohol friendly lifestyle in the Navy. He’s had lots of trouble bc of it. I wonder if he had been taught instead that it is possible to have a drink here and there as appropriate w/o it having to “be one a problem” if he would have had a different outcome? Forbidden fruit and all that?

I am sorry your mom was that way w alcohol. That’s not good for kids for sure. I am just saying I am not so sure my Mom’s approach is one I would recommend either. I will have a drink w dinner or whatnot and my kids see that. But I don’t get drunk around them. I hope they will have a healthy relationship w alcohol as adults, a balanced one.

  126. Don’t get me wrong, I would agree there are some people who shouldn’t drink. I was just trying to show the other experience, how making something forbidden and taboo can lead to excess. My mom’s concern came from my paternal Gpa being a heavy drinker and a mean drunk as well. She was afraid it was “in the blood.” And perhaps my brother would have struggled w alcohol anyway. There are two schools of thought on alcoholism: 1. It’s genetic and someone is or isn’t and 2. More current research implies alcoholism is a “learned” behavior. An escalating process. And perhaps it can be either, or both. Those interested can search “the Sinclair method” to learn more about theory 2. Pretty interesting stuff, I think.

There’s a redhead woman in a light blue coat and her companion, 2 bald blokes, and the one with the circled head, along with a few people to the right of them, replicated at least 12 times. 145. Aversion therapy is the Anabuse approach, but the relapse rate is high. W the Sinclair method, the switch that flips on saying “drink more!” Gets blocked. Without the dopamine hit reinforcing the behavior, the reinforcement loop driving the addiction weakens w time. Basically “curing it” to pre-addiction levels.

So why isn’t this treatment method w a proven 78% success rate for treating alcoholism not widely available? Or even approved in the U.S. Officially? (The medication is fda approved and can be prescribed off label or ordered via online pharmacies.) so why? Apparently the medicine used is no longer under patent, and is very inexpensive, and addiction treatment including multiple relapse treatments are big biz. Meanwhile, millions struggle or are affected by someone who is. I hope this will change soon. Research is showing the same medication works w other types of addictive behaviors, too, from food to shopping to Smartphone. Imagine the possibilities….
