Recently I linked to this article. They make some points about men getting the short end of the stick; but then seemingly to balance that out, they state this,
All this notwithstanding, it is clear that men continue to benefit from some unfair advantages. For example, they dominate the high-paying tech sector, often creating work environments that are hostile to women.
Let us focus on this hostile environment accusation. There are a couple aspects to consider,
I. Men have been taught since they were boys, that they need to get the job done. Covering for often incapable women is not conducive to this. The fellas get unhappy. Why are the women like this? Perhaps they were affirmative action hires, maybe they just want a free-ride because they are women, perhaps they just are not particularly intelligent (women’s IQs are mainly bunched around 100, while lots of men’s are much higher), perhaps they were spending their time in high school and university soaking up validation while the fellas with no such options were developing their STEM skills; perhaps you can provide more. (Note that there are some capable STEM women, NASWALT – Not All STEM Women Are Like That).
II. In any corporate setting, there is now enormous pressure not to allow anything that might upset women. Nothing that has any element of harassment, no nothing. Dealing with lawsuits and government bureaucracies is just to costly to consider. Hence the workplace is policed very tightly. Perhaps there are a few very small outfits of few guys who are trying to fly under radar on this, and probably they can; but any outfit larger has the CYA mentality.
So where exactly is the hostile environment and how precisely is it hostile?
