Hypergamy Unleashed – A Formerly Balanced System

As mentioned in the last installment, the Patriarchy was a balanced and stable system.  However, it really was not particularly stable.  Mathematicians would call it a local minimum.  That is, it was system that was stable, but it was not necessarily the most stable system that could conceivably exist.  An example of a local minimum would be a glass of water on a table.  It is stable.  But it is not at the true maximum in stability.  This maximum would happen if one poured the water out onto the floor.  Patriarchy would be like the glass of water on the table; the future would be like the water splashed on the floor.

The current topic is about how the Patriarchy remained stable.   Firstly, we will consider the classes of players involved.  There would be three: men, women, and society.  Each desired what was best (with enforced compromises) for themselves, and was encouraged to achieve it.  All will be considered in turn.

Society comes first, as it was the most important (Patriarchy is really a misnomer).  If a society was not strong, then it was conquered; and in that case little else mattered.  What did society want for itself?  It wanted a stable system (with improvements if possible) with productive citizens.  In Westernized Patriarchies, this was achieved by aligning the goals that citizens might naturally aspire to such that they benefited society also.  Society needed economic productivity, so it allowed citizens to benefit from their individual economic productivity also.  A society needed new well adjusted citizens, so it fostered their creation through traditional family formation and enforced norms to make effective families happen.

Consider the men. What do they want? They might like hot sex with a new woman every night.  But men realize quickly that this is not on the table, and are mostly satisfied with an acceptable woman (and the same one) every night.  They also want respect.  This can be satisfied by being the head of a family.  They want to create their OWN lineage. This can be assured by having one woman under tight control during marriage.

Consider the women.  What do they want?  It really comes down to sperm from the hottest men (tingles uber alles), and then guaranteed provisioning for themselves and their offspring.  This is the essence of hypergamy.  What did they get?  Their sexuality was tightly controlled, before and after marriage.  They did get sperm, but not always (usually never) from the hottest guy.  They did get to have children and provisioning.

Now for the carrots and the sticks.  Men were expected to work.  Doing this effectively allowed him attract a better wife, better provide for his wife and children, and also provide for society’s needs (e.g. taxes).  They were also expected to be able to take care of a family, to make good decisions. In return, they got regular sex, respect, and children that carried his name.

Women wanted the best man that they could get.  The way to do this was to be something that he wanted to commit to.  Of course, physical appearance was important and to be maximized.  Also of importance was femininity.  This means things like being demure, pleasant, etc.   Men really truly like these attributes.  Also, they were to be competent on the domestic front.  By maximizing these a woman could attract the best man that they could.  Women also want to “marry up”.  This is a consequence of their in-built hypergamy.  They are most content when they do so.  Naturally society had a solution for this issue.  It was to as part of the system to elevate a man’s status over that of a women via the rules.  As a side note, this is probably where much of the complaints of oppression came from with respect to the Patriarchy.

So we have men and women trying to make themselves into the most optimal person that they can from the perspective of what the opposite sex wants.  Ideally this should lead to better marriages, better families, and more well-adjusted children.

Everybody gets much (but not all of what they want).  And if everybody plays by the rules it is stable.  But what if the rules are changed?  What if this balanced system is perturbed?

Bad form to start a thread off-topic, but…great news.

Briton of the Year announced…Nigel Farage

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has been named ‘Briton of the Year’ by the Times of London. The paper awarded him the title for what it called his “game-changing” politics in a year in which the party won the European elections and gained its first two elected MPs.

The paper writes: “By any account, 2014 has been a stellar year for Ukip and its leader. After more than two decades on the fringes, the party has finally bulldozed its way into the political mainstream, led from the front by Mr Farage.”

It adds that Farage “set the political agenda for 2014″ after spending years “plugging away in the political wilderness, his amphibian features popping up only occasionally after a dig at a European bureaucrat or other form of Brussels pondlife.”

  3. Spawny Get says:

I wonder if MGTOW started as a reaction by a few men against toxic women, it rumbled along for a few decades at an apparent low level, but when the state really started to enable normal women to cash in on men and encouraged them to see it as some bizarre payback for past alleged wrongs…that’s when men saw that going their own way was necessary for sanity and survival.

Men’s willingness to partner up women that offered little was keeping the system meta-stable, but once the state, divorce law and family court kicked in…the glass left the table, the water left the broken glass.

BTW Can I interest you in assigning this post some ‘categories’ (not ‘tags’ so much, but both is fine).

I hate seeing ‘uncategorised’ in the word cloud at the bottom (especially in it’s heathen spelling, ‘zed’ ugh). I don’t think that the cloud will be updated immediately that you assign categories (but that’s no problem).

In the US, that local minimum lasted from about 1946 to 1963. It occasionally wobbled, but the largest nuclear arsenal -and a demonstrated willingness to use it- kept things from getting too out of stasis.

The end came in Dallas. If the President could get whacked, and a very unsatisfactory conclusion was all anyone could expect from the so-called authorities, what else had to be seen as untrustworthy?

As it turned out, just about everything was now seen as a lie. No one trusted authority anymore, for it was clear that authority was used to benefit a few at the expense of the many. Americans were raised to be greedy from the largess of being the strongest militarized nation with an incredible technnological base. Never would we settle for less than everything. It wasn’t lightly that Jim Morrison screamed “We want the world, and we want it now!”, for that was the ethos of the age. We wanted happiness, security, comfort, and the ability to do exactly as we pleased. We did, and there was no one to rein in the excesses of the elites anymore. We could be dismissed as inconsequential, and we didn’t care as they led us to the abyss.

To this day, real reality has yet to again be achieved. but we keep measuring it against the yardstick of The Patriarchal Era. Those days are gone forever, and cannot be reconstructed without a heavy price to be paid. Do we really want to create our own version of ISIL, which seeks to restore the 7th Century as they understand it? Neither do we want to recreate the 1950s as we think we know it, for we’ve been to the mountaintop, and we’ve seen the promised land.

Technology alone prevents any real regression. We deal with today, the here and now, or we will fall into a morass from which mankind may not escape. The choice -The Lady or the Tiger- has essentially only replaced the options to the most basic -Life or Death- for all.

  13. Spawny Get says:

Blurkel, for I have seen ‘Married with children’ that path-eth is not-eth for me-eth.

SAHM is not a full time job, nor even close unless it’s home-schooling. The fifties are gone. The state broke faith with men, making it their enemy for the foreseeable future. And men have seen what happens when men and women put the femerhoids in power…societal collapse and the unmasking of feminist (female?) nature for the sociopathic force that it is.

I can understand women wanting more than a stay at home existence, when they stop collectively picking the pockets of men and we block female in-herd preference in the work marketplace…we’re set for a glorious egalitarian future.

Vive l’Egalité…for Spawny is the Kwisatz Haderach True Feminist, the one that seeks actual equality (of opportunity, let’s see how that works out…can you keep up, fembots? I really don’t think so. I don’t think you think so either 😉 ).

An INTJ is from a Briggs Myers personality test. I don’t know exactly what it means.
    Introvert iNtuitive Thinking Judging

I did the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test this morning!

    I’m a ENTJ
    Extravert(1%) iNtuitive(11%) Thinking(1%) Judging(1%)
I’m not much of anything, right?

You have marginal or no preference of Extraversion over Introversion (1%)
You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (11%)
You have marginal or no preference of Thinking over Feeling (1%)
You have marginal or no preference of Judging over Perceiving (1%)

Yay! My absolute fav character is the ENT! I’m a Judging ENT ! 😀

    Alana is INFP
    Introvert iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving
    Cool! 🙂

  23. molly says:

Fuzzie is like a bear Ent, probably more of a Judging Ent I’m guessing. A slow pondering wise judge. 🙂
Probably 50+% Judging, instead of my piddly 1%
He’d be Int (Introvert) not Ent in the test tho. So.. Fuzzie will be an INTJ

  24. FuzzieWuzzie says:

You reminded me of something. I was only seven years old then but, you’re right. Seeing the President murdered without a subsequent trial broke the faith of a lot of Americans.

All of the couples from the “Greatest Generation” that I saw in my youth followed the Patriarchy script. This would be my parents, aunts and uncles, and family friends. Of course, this group was partially sef-selected. It was also rural, which might have made a difference. In any era, there are going to be a number of bad actors. Surely there were many in the Patriarchy era.

Long before long distance communication and ease of travel, hypergamy was kept in check by a woman not having exposure to a great many different men.

Introduce the car and telephone… BAM! We have women’s suffrage and then first wave feminism… And on thru the decades the feminist movement has allowed women to distance themselves from personal responsibility so she can pursue her tingles

The most recent factor to affect the hypergamy equilibrium was smartphones. Women can now get in contact with male upgrades in the thousands. Resulting in an endless loop of constant tingles while thinking of upgrading to a better man than the one she is “stuck with” as she can always find better on the intarweb

    the hypergamy equilibrium

    Excellent concept this is.
    Though equilibrium it is not.
    Changing constantly it is.
